1. How to document the broad spectrum of teaching activities at ITU (Lene Pries-Heje, Head of Studies) -moved to the beginning of the meeting

Every study programme has to report on some quality measurements once a year.
The Ministry asks us to report on different measurements.

Participants in the work group:
Aske Kammer, DD
Rachel Douglas-Jonas, BI
Peter Sestoft, CS

How do we measure the teaching that goes on outside the lectures. There is no final decision yet but Lene would like your input/feedback. Lene would like to take a pro-active approach and come up with a suggestion for the politicians.

Some of you might already have been asked about which kind of learning/teaching activities you introduce your students to.

How do you describe your courses?

Sebastian: if you have to select activities for your course before the course starts, it leaves little room for a dynamic course development.
Hajo: it's good to be able to show the students beforehand which activities the course will present. It can be a tool to show openness to our students.

It's important to show that learning activities are part of the courses (not all lectures). The outside world look at lectures as quality teaching.

The students' time could be divided between:
Faculty time
TA time
Self-study time

Although this might be what they want to measure (how much time do students have with faculty), it will be good to have something else to show them (what else do we do/how else do we engage the students).

After Lene talks to all three departments, the work group will make a decision about future steps.

We have also been asked how many hours students spend on their education - the students will have to answer themselves but it is possible that we will be asked how much time we had planned for them to spend on their studies.

It was not the intention to measure this when this work started but the two things might get mixed up.

2. General information
  • Faculty and PhD positions
    - New PhD student, Maria Karampela
Service design in health care. Supervisor: Minna
  • Information from management, boards and councils
    - Good news about Games program (Martin)
  • If the employment percentage increases we have a chance to get out of the dimensioning - so it will at least not affect us for the next four years.

  • - Research coordination group: We suggest that ITU offers 1 PhD course per department per year. 2-3 affiliate adjunct professors should be affiliated to each department. A PhD course is taught primarily by adjunct professor; organizer from department. Budget to cover fee to adjunct professor giving the course.-
  • Who will take on the task if you don't earn ECTS? Each department could try to engage adjunct professors who can teach PhD courses (they don't get a regular salary but they will be paid a fee to teach the PhD course). Each research group could suggest/nominate people.
The aim is to have minimum one PhD course per dept. per year. Start 2018.

Infrastructure Council (Luca)

IT dept. is considering giving some researchers full control and responsibility over their computer (you can argue that you need different software for your research).
How we use file sharing - we are not aloud to use Google doc, dropbox etc for sharing research data.

If you have problems with your IT rights etc, send Luca an email.

Sebastian: we need a ITU wide cluster (for students also).

Library Committee (Gitte)
Laura Watts is leaving so we will need someone to run it (Paolo is doing it for now).
