Jens Chr. Presentation

Every year we will compliment the strategy with an action plan.
Last year we made some working groups – the action plans that sprung from these groups will be incorporated in the vision document.

SPARKIT is an initiative to further activities that could start projects that will bring in at least 1 mil kr.
We will select 3-4 faculty from each department (who have not yet attracted big funding). Lone will select 3 from DD department. We invite them to meet with executive management + department management.
If you have been the local ITU lead on a project you do not qualify for this initiative.

They have 15 min to pitch their idea, questions
We have set aside 1,5 mil this year to support these individuals
They meet with EM + DM once a month.
Maybe we could talk about teaching reduction as a help but all researchers are expected to teach?


Other information:
Anna Vallgårda is now security representative for this department
Lisbeth has become a member of a External Examinator Board at KU.
Info from Lisbeth: In the future it will be expected that you can handle all examinations internally and only use external examinators on BA and MA thesis exams.

2. Good news and accomplishments
  • New research projects / grants
We did 13 research grants so far in 2017.

3. Research groups and other constellations

There are 11 rules (see ppp)

Does everybody feel included by the new proposal?
Erik: should there be some training provided for these HoG?
Lone has talked to Søren Vejlebo regarding training in management roles.

Lisbeth: is it a possibility that the group bring 1 mil to the table as a group and appoint a HoG?
Lone: I have brought this up and it is not in line with management strategy, so no.
Lone: it is a step in the right direction to have smaller groups with more personnel managers – you have a manager closer to you and in understanding of your field.

Erik: will these two types of groups be treated equally? Will they be provided with budgets or will only one type?
Lone: we will have to figure this out as we go.
- we will not close a group because they don’t have 1 mil external funding one year.
- of course assistant professors should not be burdened with personnel management tasks because they get a large grant – if this happens on more occasions, we can raise the question of pooling grants to EM.

Espen: should there be a end date to these centers?
Lone: You have to apply for becoming a center – suggest life span in the application.

Gitte: we would still need a way of meeting across groups (eg. everyone who are interested in communication )
Lone: We are in the process of founding a lab council – the labs are a good ground for meeing across groups.

4. Digital Design Seminar + summer party

Maria will make an overview of room sharing etc.

1. day: research sharing day – find ways of working across our old groups
  • Kjell: we can offer our expertise to others and ask for expertise from others to our research

2. day: funding workshop with Innovayt

Question: Is there a way for people who don’t want to share and who are on a small budget?

Gitte: could we do short pitches (10 -30 min) that can be discussed at the lunch meeting? Your research, policies at ITU etc.
